Rebranding Black Garlic from Scratch: Logo, Label, and Packaging Design with Real Print Prototyping
A brand consulting and identity design project for Super Black Garlic, a new black garlic brand from Lamphun that had to “start over from zero” after being abandoned by its previous agency. We rebuilt the brand end-to-end from direction and logo design to real label print testing—so it was truly ready for market with a professional presence.

Introduction
We came later but were confident we could do it better.
Super Black Garlic is a new brand aiming to compete with a “better-looking” image and clear product differentiation. The client is a factory in Lamphun expanding from custom machine manufacturing into food processing. They wanted a black garlic brand that looks credible and is ready to grow in the real market.
Wherever you were hurt before, you can always start again with us.
The client is a professional machine-manufacturing factory in Lamphun Province that wanted to expand its business line from made-to-order machinery into food processing. Leveraging existing expertise in food science and engineering, they developed a black garlic product to enter the market (and it’s seriously delicious!).

Problems
Problems
The client arrived with an existing label/logo that didn’t work and wanted to rebuild the entire system from scratch. As one of the later entrants in the market, the brand needed a strong “first-glance memory” to compete. We aligned on a key decision: the most prominent word must be “SUPER” (not Garlic), so customers remember it as “SUPER black garlic.”
Plan & Solutions
We started by rebranding everything understanding the market and competitive gaps, then designing a production-ready logo and label.
Product features used as the foundation for messaging
Made from large-head Thai garlic
Tastes great and offers health benefits (e.g., cholesterol-related benefits)
Minimal nutrient loss during the production process
Already has a base of loyal customers
Can be eaten as a snack or used in many dishes not limited to Thai cuisine
Processes
Brand Direction & Message Framework
Aligned understanding through documents/presentations on the direction and the end results the client should expect
Made the brand’s core recognition point crystal clear: push “SUPER” as the heart of the logo and communications

*One of our early presentations used to align direction and expected outcomes
Logo Exploration (Try every idea)
Explored multiple directions to “see everything before choosing,” across different moods (e.g., making SUPER memorable / a Japanese-inspired style / a premium approach)

*Emphasizing “SUPER” like Burger King

*A slightly Japanese-inspired direction

*Even a Starbucks-like premium approach
Design Refinement (Sharpen until the answer appears)
Narrowed the scope step by step until reaching the version the client felt truly confident in
Key details like the “garlic top/bulb nub” were revised through many versions until they fit perfectly

*The garlic top detail was revised for a long time hundreds of versions before it finally clicked.
Print Prototype (Go to the print shop / test the real thing)
Forced a real decision on brand colors through physical proof test-printing the label and applying it to packaging to verify visibility and logo proportions
Worked with print specialists to match real production quality as closely as possible

*A diagram explaining the team’s workflow after the client finalized the preferred logo

*Once we could hold it in hand, we could size the logo accurately for the real label

*Tested it on a gold paper pouch—does the chosen color stand out?

*The logo’s gloss and shine came from gradient design plus high-quality printing techniques on glossy sticker material
Result
Delivered a new logo and brand direction that makes “SUPER” the clear, memorable anchor
Delivered labels/packaging that were tested with real printing to control color, size, and premium feel before mass production
Status at the time of the original article: the brand was still preparing documentation (FDA/Thai FDA registration and nutrition labeling) before launch

*The logo we designed for the brand
